I honestly thought it would not be that difficult to walk into a store with a budget, get solely what was on my list and walk out. I did not realize, until yesterday, that over the past year, I have developed the not so great habit of adding to my grocery list as I walk through the store. I always have a detailed list of what I want to buy, but pretty displays of fruits or sale items have played to my weaknesses and tend to end up in my basket.
I am sort of embarrassed to say that I had a hard time sticking to that $30/week. I was buying everything I needed, but was walking past quite a few “wants”, which was hard! I went to two different stores and ended up spending $32.15. Now, although I feel that this was an okay first try, I cannot count it as a success. It just shows me I have some more work to do, but I know it is work that will be far more fulfilling than an extra bag of popcorn ; )

I buy fruit weekly, so this is pretty reflective of that. I have a ton of frozen vegetables, beans, eggs, etc. already, so I am going to use those up before I buy anything else. From the groceries I purchased along with ingredients I already had, I have been able to make:
