Snacking
Now I know all of you are fully aware of what a snack is, but not all of you may be privy to what food will leave you feeling full, satisfied and good about what you just ate. There are the obvious suggestions of fruit, a handful of nuts and raw vegetables, but I am sure you can agree that it’s nice to diverge from the simple and ordinary. Here are a few of my favorite healthy snack combos:
1. 1 small apple (sliced) with 1 serving of Laughing Cow Blue Cheese (35 calories/serving) OR 1 tbsp of almond butter
2. 1/2 small whole wheat pita with slices of 1/4 avocado, 1/2 cup diced tomatoes and 1 oz mozzarella or monterey jack (I like to stick it in the oven so the cheese melts)
3. 1/4-1/2 cup greek yogurt with 1/2 cup berries
4. 1 slice whole wheat toast with 1 tbsp almond butter and 1/2 small banana sliced on top
5. 2 cups air popped popcorn
6. 16 frozen grapes
7. 3 oz baby carrots OR 1/3 sliced bell pepper with 2 tbsp hummus
8. 1 cup sliced cucumbers mixed with 1/4 cup greek yogurt, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1/2 tbsp minced garlic, 1 tsp dill (to thin the yogurt, you can add some white vinegar)
9. 1 tbsp pesto mixed with 1-2 oz canned tuna on a toasted wheat pita
10. 1/3 cup oatmeal (prepared with water) with 1 tbsp nut butter and 1 tbsp sugar free chocolate syrup mixed in ; )
